Grey House Films was founded by Sa’ad Shah and Aeyliya Husain.  

Shah brings marketing expertise, as well as a background in finance and film production. Husain is an award winning filmmaker with 15+ years of experience in film and television production.

Shooting War is the first film under Grey House. It will have its world premiere at the 2017 Tribeca Film Festival. THE NEXT FILM, An Unlikely Soldier, is NOW IN post-production.

 

 

THE FILMMAKERS

Aeyliya Husain, DIRECTOR

Aeyliya Husain is an award-winning director who got her start with The National Film Board of Canada, directing The World at 10 following two 10-year-old inner city children through their school year. Daughters of the Revolution, profiled Iranian activist lawyer Mehrangiz Kar as she pushed to reform human rights in Iran. This film was nominated at the International Documentary Association in Los Angeles for the Pare Lorentz award and won the Golden Sheaf Award for best POV documentary. Last year she worked on a short experimental documentary, Someone Who Is Not Like Anyone, about Iranian poet and feminist Farough Farrokhzad, which screened at festivals in 2016, including the Glasgow Short Film Festival and the São Paulo Short Film Festival. Currently she is in post-production on a hour long documentary called Urban Inuk, about the challenges of being a young Inuit in the fast-paced city centres of southern Canada. Her latest film Shooting War, tells the story of the Iraq War through photographs. It premieres at Tribeca Film Festival in April 2017.

Husain earned her MFA in film from York University and her undergraduate degree, in Fine Arts from University of Waterloo. She currently mentors new filmmakers, through the Toronto Arts Council, Refugee Artist Mentorship Program, helping them navigate the Canadian film landscape.

SA'AD SHAH, PRODUCER

Sa’ad formed Grey House Films in 2016 as a means to cultivate his strong interest in scriptwriting and film production. As an alternative-investment professional for over 12 years, he has experience in marketing Film Financing strategies to investors. In 2014 he wrote and produced his first film, In Difference, a short psychological thriller. Following up on the successfully produced Shooting War, Sa'ad is now co-producing his second documentary, An Unlikely Soldier.

Sa’ad is the proud father of two daughters and currently lives in Toronto.
